UI Suggestions for OS X version

Post by TomR »

For the OS X version can we have:

1) The option to transpose the "Engine" and "Description/Text" panes in the ebook view? This way the description pane can be expanded without cramping the candidate and move history panes. Or maybe just insert the description pane between the engine and board panes as the engine interface requires more width than height so would be better placed in the left split.

2) Have the candidate move entries reduced in size or have them proportional to their font size. I like that the font size can be specified for the other panes and it would be really nice if that applied to the candidate moves too.

3) Have the chess board center justified in it's pane. Currently it left justifies and simply doesn't look aesthetically pleasing when its pane is in a wide aspect ratio.

[Not sure if any of these suggestions would apply to the Windows version as I only have OS X]

Thanks, Tom.

You must be using the Express version (or an older Professional version). The latest Professional version does allow you to change the candidate font size. I'll get that updated in the Express version soon.

Centering the board is a good idea.

I'll have to tinker with your idea of swapping the location of the panes. By "Description/Text" panes do you mean the comments area or the description of the opening at the top?

Hi Mike,

I meant the comments pane, i.e. the bottom right pane in the Express version. I would like the comments area to be as big as possible and to do that I have to organize the UI like this:

I would rather have something like this (but imagine the engine and comments panes swapped):

Though I think the engine pane would need to be organize vertically inside in order to allow for the narrower width of the right column.

I believe I fixed the screenshots now, if you weren't able to see them before you should be able to see them now.

It's certainly possible to add the capability to display ebooks in different layouts like the one you're suggesting. It'd take quite a bit of work though.
